It’s time to purchase Wyoming preference points! Points for all species are on sale from July 1 through October 31st each year. Any points you purchase this year can be used in future drawings. Wyoming Preference Points July 1 – October 31
As a reminder, Wyoming does NOT provide the option to automatically purchase a point if you are unsuccessful in the license draw. Whether or not you applied in the draw, you’ll need to visit the Wyoming Department of Game and Fish (WDFG) website to purchase points. You have from July 1 until October 31. If you miss this window you will not get a point toward the following season. So don’t procrastinate – get it done while the window is still open!
To get started, CLICK HERE and follow the steps to purchase your preference points. If you don’t already have an account with WDFG, you will need to create a new account. It’s fast and easy to do. You do not need to apply for any specific units. Preference points are species specific and attached directly to your SPID. You may purchase one point for each species each year. We recommend purchasing a point each for elk, deer and antelope.
Whether or not you have plans to hunt in Wyoming, purchasing preference points now is a great idea. This will make planning a future hunt much easier. And it will open up more options for you in the future.
As a nonresident hunter, having accumulated preference points will greatly increase your chances of drawing your licenses when you are ready to hunt. Most of the elk and deer areas require several points to draw. While there are still a few areas that can be drawn with little to no points for antelope it’s still a good idea to help ensure a successful drawing.
Purchasing points in Wyoming is relatively inexpensive. Unlike some other western states, you are not required to purchase a nonresident hunting license in order to acquire points. You can simply log into your account on the WGFD website, and purchase one point, per species, per year. Points are inexpensive insurance to help you draw when you’re ready to go hunting.
Points are used as “preference” in the drawing and assist you in obtaining your license.
