Let’s get a head start on planning your hunts in 2024 or beyond! Again, if you have 4 or more preference points for elk in Wyoming, contact us now and we can help you plan a 2023 hunt.

Get Your Equipment in Order

As you prepare for your hunting adventures next year or in the future, work on getting your gear in order. Most importantly, don’t delay in practicing with your weapon. This should be a year-round activity, not a quick cram-session before your hunt. Are you planning a hunt that’s two years out? Start shooting now! We can’t stress enough how important it is.

It’s never too early to start shooting your bow. Get your arrow setup dialed and shoot with broadheads and field points. Shooting a few days each week takes your confidence to a much higher level in the field. The same applies to shooting your rifle. Hit the range for some therapeutic fun and use the off-season to experiment with different rounds at variable distances. Turn your archery and rifle shooting into a second nature skill by practicing throughout the entire year.

Early in the off-season can be a great time to find discounts on high quality clothing and hunting gear. It’s also the time to fit new boots and break them in on local trails. Archery hunters tend to choose light, breathable footwear for the heat while rifle season hunters grab for the waterproof boots that are ready to tackle cooler weather and potential snow.

Start Training Early

Training at the range is one thing but your body needs to be prepared as well. Our bow season deer hunts alternate between ground blinds and spot-and-stalk tactics, so hunters should be prepared for both extremes. Archery elk hunters can expect to cover uneven terrain – and the ability to quickly close the distance for a setup on a bugling bull is key.

Rifle hunts also have the advantage of vehicle access to cover ground on these big, open landscapes. But when it comes time to put a stalk on a big buck antelope, mule deer or bull elk, a hunter’s ability to cover ground is an advantage. What’s more, being in good condition will simply make the experience more fun!

Physical training does not have to be a major undertaking for most hunters. Make it fun by cross training with different activities. Rotate your gym workouts with hiking a few times each week. Work on your cardio, core strength and flexibility and you will be ready when the season opens.

Those 2023 hunts may seem distant right now. But these important dates always creep up. Whether it’s your license applications, equipment prep or training, get a head start on your 2023 adventures and get ready to live THE LIFE!
